Rowing Program
The Ulverstone Rowing Club (URC) is well known in Tasmania as a club that has had significant growth over recent years. The club caters for rowers from U13 through to Masters (being 27 years of age and over). School groups are also a common site at the club. Current schools such as Marist Regional College, Hellyer College, Penguin High, Ulverstone High, St Brendan Shaw College, Don College and others from around the area, have students who row. These students also row under the club colours during the club season.
The club consistently competes at the State Pennant Series of Regattas which are held at Lake Barrington, at Franklin (on the Huon River). Making up the pennant are 6 regattas and 1 state championship.
Age groups for the pennant season are;
· U17
· U19
· U21
· U23
· Senior
· Novice
· Masters
URC also attends the Masters events at Lake Barrington, in Launceston (on the Tamar River) and at New Norfolk (on the Derwent).
The club also caters for social rowers who are content on rowing on the Leven River and enjoying the scenery as it goes by along with some companionship of other rowers.
Our senior rowers have the opportunity to attend national regattas to put their ability to the test. Recently a composite crew with two URC rowers achieved the result of the 5th fastest quad in the country.
Boats at the club are maintained to a high level resulting in competitive craft to achieve goals set by coaches and rowers alike. URC have boats available for members to use. These consist of;
· Single scull
· Double scull / pair
· Quad scull / four
· Eight
· Adaptive / Para rowing craft
The club has some but limited space to house privately owned boats. This option would need to be discussed with the Club Captain.
